This Mens Crochet Beanie Pattern makes a densely textured hat. It's great to keep the winter cold out.

Use any Medium weight size 4 yarn, approx. 250 yards.

Needles 5mm and 4.5mm

Intermediate Level.

You will need the measurements for the person you are making the hat for.  Measure around the forehead, just above the ear.  


Bottom up Approach

Work rib in sc.

Work last sc of rib in both loops.

Turn the same way for each turn.

Using the smaller crochet hook:

1. Ch 10.

2. Sc in back bumps starting 2nd ch from hook. Work last sc in both loops for every row. Ch1 to turn.

3. Sc in blo of each sc across. Remember to work last sc in both loops. Ch 1 to turn.

Continue working row 3 until you reach the length of the rib.

Change to the larger crochet hook.

Each row starts with Ch3.

1. Work dc evenly across rib. # of dc must be divisible by 8.

This Mens Crochet Beanie Pattern has 80 dc across.

2. {1 fpdc around next 4 dc. 1 bpdc around next 4 dc} around. Join with sl st to top of the first fpdc.

3. Repeat row 2.

4. {1 bpdc around next 4 fpdc. I fpdc abound next 4 dc} around. Join with sl st to the top of first bpdc.

5. Repeat row 4.

Work rows 2 -5 until you reach the hat length minus 4 inches.

Start decrease rows 2 and 4 by decreasing fpdc from 4 to 3. Pattern goes like this

Row 2: {1 fpdc around bpdc. 1 fpdc abound 2 bpdc . 1 fpdc around bpdc. 1 bpdc around next 4 fpdc.} around. Join with sl st to the top of first fpdc.

Repeat the decrease pattern until the hole is the size of a penny.

Further, decrease with sc over 2 stitches until the hole is as small as you can get it.

Use needle and yarn to cinch up the hole.
